Microneedling feels more like sandpaper against the skin rather than needles. If scars are more pronounced, the treatment may require longer microneedles, leading to a more intense sensation. We can provide a topical anesthetic before treatment to ensure minimal discomfort.
Due to the varying levels of treatment needed for each individual patient, patients can experience effects ranging from redness, bruising, or pinpoint bleeding after their procedure. This varies based on the depth and area of skin treated. Most often, pinpoint bleeding diminishes immediately. Patients report that the treated area appears similar to sunburn after their procedure. This effect can last several days and is completely normal. Patients should avoid sun exposure, hot water, swimming, or strenuous exercise up to 24 hours after your treatment.
Microneedling reactivates your body’s natural healing process by boosting collagen and elastin production. However, as you age, collagen and elastin can continue to break down. Thus, in order to maintain your results, we recommend that follow-up treatments be scheduled every three to four weeks. This ensures that the collagen and elastin in your skin continue to proliferate.
The addition of PRP to microneedling allows for more efficient absorption of PRP. Microneedling produces micro-pores in the skin, which ensures a more significant penetration of PRP into the deeper layers of skin.
Microneedling can be used on almost any skin surface! Most commonly, patients choose to treat their face, neck, arms, décolleté, abdomen, and the backs of the hands.
We recommend spacing your microneedling treatments apart by 3-4 week intervals for optimal results.
