IPL Treatment in Highland Park

An In-Depth Look at Your IPL Treatment in Highland Park

Aesthetic Treatments / November 9, 2023

At Perlis MedSpa and Wellness Center, we take a clinically close look at everybody we see. With over half a century of combined experience in medicine, our experts use advanced natural science for better beauty. One of the best non-invasive skin rejuvenating treatments we offer is our IPL treatment in Highland Park. Let’s take an in-depth look together.

What It Treats

Before we start any treatment planning, it’s important to know if this treatment is right for you. With an arsenal of advanced techniques, Perlis MedSpa and Wellness Center can do more than just make a pretty face. Here are the top reasons we recommend IPL treatments in Highland Park.

Redness (Rosacea)

People of all ages can get rosacea, but it tends to happen in a few key groups of people. Middle-aged men and women are at increased risk, as well as anyone with fair skin. It can even be present in those with darker skin, but it largely goes unnoticed due to the high melanin content.

To understand more about your rosacea, we’ll take a look at your medical history and correlate our in-house lab work while talking to you in a comfortable consultation. We also look for additional conditions that may be helped by an IPL treatment in Highland Park.

Broken Capillaries

Unfortunately, broken capillaries are common for almost anyone. Splotches with nearly microscopic legs are telltale signs of enlarged blood vessels just beneath your skin’s surface. Generally speaking, if you have rosacea, it’s common to have broken capillaries. Harsh winter and summer temperatures can also cause damage if you overexpose your skin.

To treat broken capillaries without doing any further damage to your skin, we’ll recommend an IPL treatment in Highland Park. This virtually non-invasive treatment is a perfect way to rejuvenate your skin for a fresh start and a healthy glow.

Hyperpigmentation

If you’re seeing a darkening of your skin beyond your summer tan, hyperpigmentation can be detrimental to your skin’s overall health. To understand your healthy skin tone, we reference what is called the Fitzpatrick scale to understand your melanin content. This is just as easy for our specialists as it is to pick out a hair dye. However, with this treatment, you’re not changing the color of your skin; you’re improving the natural health and beauty of your skin. We love a good cowboy copper on healthy skin though!

Lighten Up!

We keep things light here on the North Shore. With the relaxed, welcoming environment at Perlis MedSpa and Wellness Center, Intense Pulsed Light is the only intensity you’ll find.

This advanced skin rejuvenation utilizes high-intensity lights that emit specific wavelengths extending from visible (515 nm) to the infrared spectrum (1200 nm). This intense pulse of light is then absorbed by the skin tissue and converted to destructive heat. Wavelengths can be customized for different targets.

We are able to utilize longer wavelengths (1000 nm) to penetrate deeper. This means that IPL can even be effective for spider veins, clinically referred to as telangiectasia. Say that three times fast!

Telangiectasia – te-lan-jē-ek-tā-zh(ē-)ə

With such an amazing treatment process, we find it hard not to nerd out a little. So while you’re here, let’s go in-depth into the science behind beautiful skin and IPL.

The Science Behind IPL

High-intensity pulses of light are delivered to the skin, which target melanin, hemoglobin, and other skin discoloration. The light energy heats the skin cells and breaks them down, which in turn triggers natural skin cell rejuvenation. This treatment allows new skin cells to replace the old ones in damaged areas, significantly improving the appearance and texture of the skin. While IPL treatments are virtually noninvasive, preparation is key to lasting results.

Pre-Treatment Prep

As your consultation leads to IPL, we’ll recommend a few important steps to get the best results from every session. Any adverse conditions for your skin’s texture and pigmentation can result in additional treatments needing to be scheduled. Therefore, make sure to follow these recommendations before your IPL treatment in Highland Park:

  • Avoid exposure to the sun and tanning beds for two weeks before your appointment. You may be at a higher risk of burns, changes in pigmentation, or scarring without proper protection.
  • Discontinue the use of self-tanners for four weeks prior to the procedure.

Your Day of Rejuvenation

During your session, you’ll wear protective eyewear and lie down on a comfortable procedure bed. The treatment area will be cleansed, a cool gel will be applied to the skin, and a handheld device will be used to deliver pulses of light to the treatment area(s).

You may feel some mild discomfort or warming of the skin during treatment. IPL photofacial results after one treatment may produce some redness, swelling, or mild discomfort in the treated area. These are normal and temporary side effects that should subside within a few days. Some darkening or flaking of the pigmented lesions may also be noticed, which will gradually fade away over time.

The Week Following Your IPL Treatment in Highland Park

You’ll want to avoid direct sun exposure and apply sunblock when outside. It is important to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized since the IPL treatment can dry it out. You’ll also need to avoid products that contain alcohol, retinoids, or other irritating ingredients. After your IPL, you’ll need to replace the champagne showers with our clinically trusted products.

You may also want to further the health and beauty of your skin. Good thing we know just the thing! Following your IPL treatment in Highland Park, let’s talk about some amazing ways to empower your beauty even further:

Your House-Recommended Pairings

When you go out, do you only get the main course? Of course not! That’s why our menu of treatments for health and beauty pairs nicely together. Become a feast for the eyes with these perfect pairings to IPL at Perlis MedSpa and Wellness Center:

Virtue RF

RF microneedling encourages the skin to do what it does best. This is just like working out at the gym. As you lift weights, you’re tearing your muscle tissue to make it grow stronger. The needles used in microneedling make clinically precise tears in the skin to tell your body it’s time to make more collagen. This results in a fresher, brighter overall look.

Skinwave

To give you a youthful, healthy glow, we recommend Skinwave. This treatment works by introducing additional hydrogen to turn extra oxygen in your skin into water! This treatment then extracts this water with a highly specialized microdermabrasion device. The process leaves skin hydrated and glowing. At Perlis MedSpa and Wellness Center, we go the extra mile by adding a complementary booster to further your skin’s natural glowing beauty.

Hormone Therapy

If it’s felt like “one of those days” for months or even years, it’s hard to feel beautiful in your own skin. That’s why we recommend bioidentical hormone replacement therapy at Perlis MedSpa and Wellness Center. Dr. Cheryl Perlis is a leading local authority in this procedure, with over 20 years of dedicated research and development of some of the most effective plans on the North Shore.

By addressing imbalances in your testosterone, progesterone, and estrogen, every treatment we offer works better, lasts longer, and creates happier patients. Dr. Perlis has trusted this treatment in her own health plan for over a decade and continues to sing its praises. Staying sharper, living happily, and remaining active helps everyone feel just as good as they look from IPL treatments in Highland Park.
